Scaling AgTech tools to maximize pasture harvest and utilization in pastoral systems of Uruguay, Argentina, and Costa Rica, enhancing productivity and sustainability through digitalization and data-driven decision-making.
In Latin America and the Caribbean, pastoral systems are key to livestock production but face challenges such as climate variability, resource efficiency, and sustainability. Digitalization and AgTech tools have emerged as solutions to optimize pasture harvest and utilization, improving productivity without compromising environmental balance. This project aims to scale digital technologies in pastoral systems in Uruguay, Argentina, and Costa Rica, enabling data-driven decision-making and promoting sustainable practices. The solutions to be scaled have already proven successful in these objectives, and through satellite monitoring, predictive models, and digital management, the project seeks to reduce technological gaps and enhance production efficiency.

From the cloud to the pasture: An innovation platform to bring digitalization to pastoral systems
This project will strengthen and expand an innovation platform for pastoral systems, composed of producers, technicians, and researchers, to validate, improve, and scale digital tools in Uruguay, Argentina, and Costa Rica, with expansion to other FONTAGRO member countries. The focus is on digitalization and data-driven decision-making to enhance productivity efficiency and sustainability. The tools to be scaled have proven effective in field implementation, achieving significant improvements in pasture harvest and utilization. Additionally, a User-Centered Design approach will be adopted to integrate new functionalities and optimize existing digital technologies, ensuring they meet the needs of end users, thus enhancing usability and adoption.
This is a test for the Implemented Initiative

“The implementation of the program helped us consume higher-quality pasture, improving production. We made more forage reserves. Production has improved since we started using this system.”— Dairy producer from Uruguay who uses the grazing management system.
